A very special shoot

This week I took part in a very special shoot, that was quite different to anything I normally do. I was asked to take part in a make-over shoot for a lovely lady, who sadly is very ill. As she doesn’t have much time left with her family, she decided it would be nice to leave her loved ones with a special memory in the form of a photo keepsake.

I was very honoured to be involved in such a special shoot and really wanted to make sure our client looked and felt truly beautiful. Her daughter spent the day with her and we made her over also. I hope it allowed both of them to escape from the worries they may have, even for just a few hours.

Many people view the make-up industry as a shallow place, which I admit it can be. But it would be ignorant to dismiss the power of how make-up can make a person feel. It offers escapism. You could have the most boring job in the world but if you have your favourite lippy on, the day can feel that little bit better! It irritates me when people dismiss make-up application, as simply a form of attracting the opposite sex. I actually find this view point insulting to women. Make-up is a celebration of feminity!

I love make-up & I love wearing make-up – it’s nothing to be ashamed about! It’s not because I don’t like my face without it, I have no problem being seen bare-faced. It’s the way it makes me feel – there’s nothing better when you’re having a bad day to put on a bright lipstick & it immediately makes you feel glam! Just that little lift a small product can do, makes the world of difference.

The client I worked with was transcended into another place, even if it was just for a short while, made to feel glamorous and not to talk about being ill for a couple of hours. I’d imagine she has spent much of her time recently in doctor’s offices and in painful conversations about her future. Once her make-up & hair was completed, she immediately looked lifted and her daughter also looked happy to see her mum transformed. I felt privileged to be involved with the shoot and I hope that I helped the client and her daughter have a memorable day that can be cherished forever.
